Ludo in the press
We have some fantastic mentions in the food media recently including a feature in Vogue Entertaining + Travel which said "Situated in Melbourne's bayside suburb of Sandringham, Ludo The Good Food Store is a veritable treasure trove of a grocery store, delicatessen, homewares store, bookshop and café. Its aim is to sell the best ingredients and products available, and its owners have just the right qualifications for the task. The team behind Ludo includes prolific and passionate cooks and food writers, Allan Campion and Michele Curtis, who choose the products for John and Rose Hudson (who have backgrounds in fashion and theatre respectively). Ludo stocks all Melbourne's favourite brands including Phillippa's, Genovese Coffee, Larsen & Thompson Tea and Richmond Hill cafe & Larder."

Restaurant reviewer Matt Preston recently wrote in Bayside Weekly 'Ludo is a winning bet on any throw of the dice'.

Ludo was also awarded three stars in The Age Cheap Eats 2005, the only Bayside retailer to receive their highest rating.

"If you were after proof that sleepy old Sandringham has changed, Ludo The Good Food Store would be Exhibit A." Michael Harden, The Sunday Herald Sun Magazine.

We also offer a selection of daily changing casseroles, tagines and soups to take home for dinner.

Spotlight on Annie Smithers - Chef Annie Smithers is one of Ludo's star suppliers. She has an amazing approach to making preserves, using only seasonal produce from Central Victoria and hand makes each and every batch of jam, chutney and relish herself. This hands-on approach to her ingredients and products has produced a range that is second to none. Summer 2005 has seen the arrival of amazing jams including apricot, raspberry and a delicious blackberry creation. We have also been lucky enough to secure more of her Yandoit cold pressed honey and lemon butter, which she makes with her own chicken egg yolks. Ludo is one of only a handful of retailers in Melbourne to stock Annie's products.

Spotlight on Green & Blacks Organic chocolate - Green & Black's are one of the worlds leading chocolate producers and a real favourite of everyone at Ludo. One reason is they only use organically grown cocoa beans, fruit, nuts and sugar in their products. Secondly and most importantly , Green & Blacks are one of the worlds most progressive companies and are heavily involved in Fair Trade. Fair Trade means Green & Blacks trades direct with cocoa growers, paying them a premium for their organic cocoa and an additional Fair Trade price. They also set long-term contracts with them, guaranteeing to buy all the cocoa they can produce. Farmers are also encouraged to grow their cocoa trees under the shade of indigenous trees alongside other crops, including avocado, pineapple, coffee, papaya and bananas. By having a variety of cocoa and shade trees as well as interspersing this with other plants the biodiversity within the organic cocoa farm is greatly increased. This means farmers don't suffer from the health related from using pesticides. Green & Blacks chocolates are available in a variety of different flavours including milk, caramel, dark, currant & hazelnut, almond and mint, plus the ever popular hot chocolate powder.
